iPaaS Integration, API Management

The customer:  

Markas is an international leader service company based in Bolzano, Italy. It operates mainly in Italy, Austria and Romania, collaborating for over 30 years with public and private institutions and offering them a fully integrated range of services, from cleaning to catering, from hospital logistics and patient assistance to housekeeping services.

The context:

Markas has a policy of owning the know-how of the processes and integrations between systems but historically had delegated all the implementation to third parties (typically the providers for the applications). This led to a scenario where integration was driven by contractors and usually not enough in control, with long implementation times. The new CIO decided to take back control of the integration and qualified potential solutions, coming to the choice of Boomi after performing a detailed POC. Markas contacted Mind-Mercatis directly asking for introduction to a data integration platform and Mind-Mercatis, in cooperation with Boomi Italy, introduced them the Boomi iPaaS platform potentials with respect to both integration and API Management.

Agile integration of HR processes

The customer started from heterogeneous software systems, the request was to adopt new cloud and on-premise platforms, to consolidate and to improve legacy systems. The scope mainly involved management, finance and HR processes, to make faster their IT processes. In particular, HR is a key strategic focus area for Markas, including  complex processes related to on boarding, contract management, payroll systems, and the communication between the HR management system with  other systems.

The challenge: 

the challenge was to follow a very rapid but progressive approach, creating everything in-house with a focused contribution, for this historical organization in the field of integrated services.

The project:

Mind-Mercatis has chosen to use the potential of Boomi to integrate about ten different platforms and to design interfaces (e.g. REST API) in order to make the software solution extensible. Process troubleshooting has been made much faster using an integrated monitoring mechanism.

How it was made by Mind-Mercatis: 

the improvement of business agility in order to simplify and govern the adoption of new systems was made possible thanks to a progressive adoption approach. After the PoC, and its approval by the customer, Mind-Mercatis develops its intervention on two fronts. First of all the quickstart including on-site training, on-the-job training and architectural and development consultancy with face-to-face and remote support. Secondly the adoption of the technological component was based on the integration of new systems, the consolidation from legacy system and the replacement of additions outside the governance perimeter. Thanks to Boomi AtomSphere Platform, the company can autonomously execute integrations in a timely and structured manner.

This led to a first HR-centric integration wave which led to connect:

  • MS Dynamics 365 CRM
  • Oracle HCM
  • Zucchetti
  • Q-81 HSE
  • FleetSupport
  • CSB

Recent developments: 

Mind-Mercatis are constantly coaching the customer on best practices and technical decision, the customer is very satisfied and is now evaluating more solutions within the Boomi’s ecosystem (namely Boomers’ BAE)


After 18 months the customer:

  • has achieved full independence in the adoption of the solution 
  • has landed multiple integrations while keeping pace with business needs and without needing to expend large budgets in integration. 
  • Markas now uses 15 Boomi connectors: four dedicated to HR, three to management, one to CRM, one in use at the plant’s production software and other verticals, and others used to exchange files among multiple software products.

Future developments: 

The customer plans to further expand HR integrations during the next 12 months by adopting more modules from the SAP suite. We’ve shown them also the BEA from Boomers in order to propose an integrated onboarding experience
